Karttikai Deepam Sankalpam

Karttikai Deepam is a Hindu festival of lights.  It involves lighting lamps (vilakku) to ward off evil spirits and spread prosperity. It is celebrated on the first full moon day of the month of Karttikai coinciding with Kṛttikā nakshatra.  The festival's date is determined by the Tamil solar calendar and typically falls in November or December.  The festival is associated with Shaivism, commemorates the origin of  Shiva's manifestation as Jyotirlinga.
